Paying For A Dream
Most of us work minimum
wage jobs, that barely keep us
clothed, or fed, and we scrape by
just to rent a leaky roof over our heads.
It's impossible to stay afloat
in this so called "land of opportunity"
or "land of the free"
when a bottle of water costs $2.25
and the only thought
that's suppose to keep
us from ending our lives
is that one day
we'll be judged through God's eyes.
Bills and debt keep draining
hope from our heads,
because it's a vicious world
that tells us to get an education,
work hard, build a home
and a happy family,
but what they don't tell us
is the cost we pay for heartache,
just to have a little piece
of the dream we once had.
