Ode to Old Friends [i miss you]
Scuffed Converse were our clique rags
And Monster energy drinks were our heroin
We ambled down those worn asphalt roads
And the back ways behind the trailer park
We were the oddballs of our little town
A gang of hooligans all dressed in black
We gathered in the cemetery to look at the stones
Those haunting remnants of many a yesteryear
We shuffled away with whispers and laughs
Dark humor twinkling in our darting eyes
With alternative rock playing on someone's phone
Us singing at the top of our lungs
Pyro tendencies and perverted jokes
This was the air we so freely breathed
Between talks of parents and memories
And ambitions of leaving this backwoods county
We cursed those who pointed and whispered
And took pride in being called the devil's spawn
We built this twisted friendship solidly, we thought
But alas, nothing lasts forever, we learned
At a fork in the road, in a fork of our tongues
A point none of us knew we had come to
We fell apart and fell into our own grooves
Away from what we thought was our lifeblood
Away from the nights we contemplates suicide
Away from the shrieks of laughter we shared
Away from the boyfriends we scared half to death
With threats of castration if they hurt our best friend
Away from the childlike dependence we had
Away from the blunt honesty we exchanged
Away from the motherly nagging of concern
Away from these bridges we burned
We didn't mean to, but we grew older
And Monster energy drinks were our heroin
We ambled down those worn asphalt roads
And the back ways behind the trailer park
We were the oddballs of our little town
A gang of hooligans all dressed in black
We gathered in the cemetery to look at the stones
Those haunting remnants of many a yesteryear
We shuffled away with whispers and laughs
Dark humor twinkling in our darting eyes
With alternative rock playing on someone's phone
