BEEN CLEVER

Today it is like winter came back,
it's only two-three days, then I'm leaving,
this avenue will thrive with any luck,
will thrive, self-abused and self-deceiving.

If these two things continue on her part,
she is like us this avenue, self-serving,
just like you always told me, my sweetheart,
my reasoned words when you found so unnerving.

I am also unnerved by words and deeds,
in song my every memory detailed,
if love was the sole ground to plant our seeds,
I thing, for all we've missed, we have not failed.

We've grown almost strangers, I would say,
but still, our common past will live for ever,
I'm going back to my wife, if that's ok,
so, after all perhaps I am been clever.
