Doing Good
Standing behind her,
In line at the coffee shop.
I reached forward,
To pay for her coffee,
With the App on my,
Cell Phone.
I do that,
Now and then;
Sort of a,
Do Good,
At least,
Once a day,
Every day.
Never really look,
At the person,
Since in,
Doing Good,
Who the person is,
What they look like,
Or whatever,
Doesn’t really matter.
Sometimes,
They smile.
Sometimes,
They ask, “Why?”
I answer,
“Why not?”
And,
“Have a nice day.”
Sometimes,
They thank me.
Sometimes,
Not.
Little girls,
Giggle.
Boys,
Often,
Frown.
Older women,
Blush.
I’ve seen,
Many of them,
Immediately,
Do the same thing,
For someone else.
When that happens,
It makes,
This guy,
Feel,
Kinda,
Warm,
Inside.
I’ve treated,
Maybe,
A hundred people,
Or so.
Never have I had,
The response,
She gave me.
She looked at me,
Smiled,
Said, “Yes”,
Sipped her coffee,
Said, “But, coffee first.”
