Image for the poem Fire

Fire

The first step in starting a
proper fire is with the fuel.
Latch every door and window on
this sultry summer's eve, and
open your own to me. The
sparks from sheer skin friction will
leap out and plunge into our mixing
sweat and sex dripping from your
thighs. Cover me, and I mean it,
until I finally catch, and feel the
flames licking like jagged tongues
over our carnal entwine. They are the
extent of me that wants to taste
you, all of you, at the very same
moment. Let it enter you as I will,
every fevered wave like a thrust filling
you, warming you from the inside.
We'll burn ourselves out, burn the place
down, don't you see that the fire's been
here and always will be? Somewhere in
between grasping your hips from behind and
gasping for breath in our inferno did we
reach out of atmospheres, and for a moment -
just a moment - did you extinguish
me.
