The Unsung Poet
The Unsung Poet
no one queued to hear
his songs and his stories
some sniggered
and some sneered
he worked hard
at his words
and never told a lie
his poetic song
the critics decry
unbeknown to them
like a phoenix he would rise
you see the unsung poet
didny compromise
he wrote of his politics,
his life , his love
his joy
his working class roots
the critics still deny
he wrote of a violence
an ignorance once known
a journey that a man makes
and man makes alone
he wrote of the good and
then of the bad
the things that made him happy
and then made him sad
his words were so simple
his message loud and clear
the unsung poet
live life and show no fear
then....
he dies....
... and BOOM...
they sing the poets song
the unsung poet
the queue now you see
for the unsung poet
is far more interesting when
he's dead....
no one queued to hear
his songs and his stories
some sniggered
and some sneered
he worked hard
at his words
and never told a lie
his poetic song
the critics decry
unbeknown to them
