Haunted by the Past

Life ended for me with the loss of a friend
A lover that stopped my descend
A way for what was once broken to begin to mend
Her smile took away the strife
Relief from the madness that was my life
I valued my pleasure over all else
I only did things for myself
I knew what I needed and began to grow up
I set dates and actually showed up
I promised myself I would never stand her up again
What was once lost started to begin
This life is a sick joke
Took a few pills that helped me not to choke
I was told they found me with sixty pills gone
With an empty bottle of vodka to go along
Still drowsy from the loss of two days
I needed to get out and not let my life go astray
The date was set for the next day
But as fate would have it she flew away
They told me it will eventually get better
Everday I still write her a letter
As mind displays the picture of her smile when she put on  my sweater
