That Was Yesterday
She was laughing,
She was enjoying life as it was.
She was swinging and singing in the park,
She was doing just about what every 8 year old does.
She loved the flowers in the field,
She loved holding mommy's hand.
She loved swimming in the kitty pool,
She loved building castles in the sand.
But then one day mommy didn't come home.
But then one day the sun couldn't be seen.
But then one day her security vanished,
But then one day she turned thirteen.
And daddy had no money left after drinking,
And she had no food on her plate for days.
And the electricity never returned to the lights,
And all the little girl does is sit in a daze.
But somehow she graduated high school.
But somehow she managed to fend for herself.
But somehow she got out of her daddy's sight.
But somehow she didn't have anyone else.
In the end, she turned eighteen.
In the end, she got out & moved away.
In the end, she had been through hell.
In the end, she was glad that that was yesterday.
She was enjoying life as it was.
She was swinging and singing in the park,
She was doing just about what every 8 year old does.
She loved the flowers in the field,
She loved holding mommy's hand.
She loved swimming in the kitty pool,
She loved building castles in the sand.

But then one day the sun couldn't be seen.
But then one day her security vanished,
But then one day she turned thirteen.
And daddy had no money left after drinking,

But somehow she got out of her daddy's sight.
But somehow she didn't have anyone else.

In the end, she was glad that that was yesterday.
