Lovely Paradox

Your preaching
meant to cause hesitation
was interpreted as instigation
but it wasn't defiance that fueled me
It was the sweet taste of chocolate
and the almond joy of stolen cookies

I never heard what you said
but listened to the words you mouthed
Allowed the heat from our passion
to burn off obstructions
Clearing our vision
by blazing moralistic clouds

Got high off the smell
until we were above it all
Animal instincts took over
Begging for forgiveness on all fours

I can't explain my love's fury
but you love the bull in me
The way I run through red lights
picking locks and piercing matadors

I hear you preaching now
Crying to the Lord
Thanking heaven for your wings
Singing hymns as your heart soars

The devil in me
brought you to salvation
Legs locked around
a lovely paradox
As long as you speak
my language
I promise not to stop
