The Linden Tree
A wren and a robin spoke to me
and sang of summer's gold and green
of lovers lost and fleeting dreams
beneath the shade of the linden tree
When stars shone for eternity
young hearts and minds forever free
we carved our names for all to see
deep in the bark of the linden tree
I trace those faded letters now
and rest my head against the bough
How swiftly all our years rushed past
though no-one saw it was your last
But one day soon I'll lie with thee
to walk the fields and bless the bees
rekindling love's fond memories
beneath the shade of the linden tree
and sang of summer's gold and green
of lovers lost and fleeting dreams
beneath the shade of the linden tree
When stars shone for eternity
young hearts and minds forever free
we carved our names for all to see
deep in the bark of the linden tree
I trace those faded letters now
and rest my head against the bough
How swiftly all our years rushed past
though no-one saw it was your last
But one day soon I'll lie with thee
to walk the fields and bless the bees
rekindling love's fond memories
beneath the shade of the linden tree
