THE ISLANDER
Daughter of the darker tan
beauty unknown to any men
veiled head to toe each day you quickly passed me by
yet those eyes spilled secrets of mischief, untapped passion concealed in purity and grace.
That sunny afternoon at the beach
watching you play in the water like some silly kid
Haha!Laughing musically at the sound the pebbles made
I knew you were the girl destined to bring my heart on its knees.
Each day behind the palm trees our love bloomed
The day after Eid al-Fitr we shared our first kiss
heat, intensity, chemistry we healed the hunger of days not seen!
Mmmmhh!To date still i shiver when i recall you whisper;
"Mark me habibi!Make love to me tonight, make me yours forever."
Oh my precious pearl! My darling!Oh breath of my being
They call me a highlander forbiden to love an islander
Hear me my elders oh i pray!Show mercy for our unborn little one sake
I'll trade my father's green lands, goats, camels the bride price il pay
Give me a chance il build her a home i swear il show you our love is not a mistake.
Daughter of the coastal region darkened by pain than the raw sun's rays
locked upstairs behind the glass she reach out pleading for my help
Joy of my days!Mother of my unborn child,oh my black queen
Even i who hunt lions with clubs, bow and arrows cannot find another way,am afraid.
She will be shipped overseas later today
Fourth wife to old wealthy Amir; The groom my love is fated to wed
Oh she begged to let her die "Marry him or by stripes you shall die!" The elders threatened
"I have lived!I have loved and i been loved!Stone me you may!"She dared 'em with a smile.
Moon of my nights!light of my world! My comforter my heaven!Oh!Keeper of my wild heart!
I weep for you my angel!I bleed for you hababti
I cry for my fruit,my baby, the blood of my loins that lay in the comforts of your womb
Oh!Rib of my ribs!Strength of my bones!Oh shephard of my soul...
Somewhere behind the shadows of the dark harbour he watched them leave
And as the ship ferrying his women disappeared down the edge of the Indian Ocean
Overwhelmed by pain and grief he lifted his sword and pierced his heart
"For you i lived my love! For you i must now die oh Islander that i may watch over you for all time."
If only he was strong enough to endure one night of weeping;
They would be dancing the night away tonight beneath the stars
"What good then Valentino that i trade my birthright to my sister if you were so willing to die than live and fight?"She cursed bitterly on his remains
But not even she was strong enough to live without him.
As the blood of the unborn child reached heaven that night
The sky wailed and hailed curses on the Islanders for such disregard of the gift of love
Old,young,sick,healthy...entire generations were wiped out by thunder and lightining
That is why among my people there is none who celebrates Valentines day.
It was the night of 14/2/18BC.
