The Affliction of Addiction

When I am with you...
pain melts away.
Everything you do...
brightens my day.

When we embrace...
time stands still.
Joy rules this face...
emotions instill.

Euphoric seduction...
warming my soul.
Your sweet corruption...
devours me whole.

As time passes on...
I notice a change.
When you are gone...
I feel so strange.

Without you here...
I'm walking blind.
Swallowed by fear...
soulfully confined.

Sadness consumes...
taking its toll.
Misery looms,
I lose control.

I need you now!
Now more than ever!
I do not know how,
to live with "never".

Just one more kiss...
just one more chance!
Don't deny me this...
chemical romance.

You have been taken...
and I am now lost.
Hopeless and forsaken,
paying the cost.

Who would known...
that my addiction,
would leave me alone...
in withering affliction.

I have severed all ties...
all bridges burnt.
With all of the lies,
a harsh lesson learnt.

With every bad decision...
I now painfully lie,
In a cold, dark prison...
where I soon will die.

(A poem about an addict who was thrown in prison for acts he committed while on drugs.)
