I HAVE TO LEAVE
For winter time in my old age,
this avenue I could survive,
I would not know I'm in a cage,
I would be fooled that I'm alive.
But coming spring and summer nights…
how would they challenge my false notion,
taking my thoughts to endless flights,
close to my heart's yearning devotion?
Pretending not to understand
that love has been my crown's gem,
watching the lovers hand in hand
and wanting to be one of them?
Noting the flowers blooming fast,
hearing the songs that never die,
belonging to an age past,
they would uncover my brief lie.
Oh no, this will not do for me,
I have to leave this road behind,
the only way to be free
is to re-joint the human kind.
