The Passing Of My Great Nanan Lily
Frail old beauty
smiling blankly at me
I'm forgotten to her memory
A new face she will soon forget
once again
The care home smelt musky
it's a smell I will remember
she was sat hunched over
in pain and coughing weakly
and yet she still managed to smile
To see a great woman like this
ripped open my insides and ravaged my heart
I didn't stay too long in the home
the staff were looking after her
I felt sad when I left her in good hands
A few days seemed to drag to weeks
I heard she was slowly dying now
still in agony from the illnesses
she lay in bed drifting into slumber
her memory gone and her voice quiet
No more suffering as she passed on
a beautiful lily remains in my heart
I will see her one last time
asleep in her cushioned bed
before she is laid to rest
smiling blankly at me
I'm forgotten to her memory
A new face she will soon forget
once again
The care home smelt musky
it's a smell I will remember
she was sat hunched over
in pain and coughing weakly
and yet she still managed to smile
To see a great woman like this
ripped open my insides and ravaged my heart
I didn't stay too long in the home
the staff were looking after her
I felt sad when I left her in good hands
A few days seemed to drag to weeks
I heard she was slowly dying now
still in agony from the illnesses
she lay in bed drifting into slumber
her memory gone and her voice quiet
No more suffering as she passed on
a beautiful lily remains in my heart
I will see her one last time
asleep in her cushioned bed
before she is laid to rest
