playing for keeps

                 lying in the shadows
                you pray on the weak,
                taking what you want
                to serve your needs.
                always one step ahead,
                with that ace up your
                sleeve.
                like a thief in the night,
                you're playing for keeps.

                in your descent from heaven
                you lost your wings.
                now the ruler of this world,
                a self proclaimed king.
                dwelling in the garden,
                where you sow your seeds.
                planing to unleash evil
                with the fruit that she eats.
                manifest destiny,
                you're playing for keeps.

                turn the pages,
                while the lion sleeps.
                another chapter ends,
                of self fulfilled prophecies.
                with a deafening roar,
                the mountains crumble
                and the heavens weep.
                the lion awakes,
                and wants to eat.
                with a blinding light,
                the darkness is where
                he'll feed.

                the lion takes another bite,
                as he devours his feast.
                keeping his promise,
                to set the captives free.
               
                the prince of darkness
                is in his cage,
                time to pay for his deeds.
                he can feel the countless
                eyes that gaze,
                as he wallows in defeat.
                the lion returns,
                and he's playing for keeps.
