Isn’t it a shame
Isn’t it a shame
We went from
'I THINK, THEREFORE I AM'
To “duh.”
From the Age of Enlightenment
Which encouraged reason, knowledge and education
As a way of overcoming superstition and ignorance
To so many people who are superstitious and ignorant today,
Or because of instant messaging who can’t spell?
Isn’t it a shame
That the emphasis is on personality rather than character?
What ever happened to politeness
Or good manners?
Isn’t it a shame
Instead of talking and listening
It’s often blabbering and not giving another your attention?
Isn’t it a shame
We don’t think before we react
That it’s about feelings rather than thoughtfulness?
Did we have to sacrifice
Courage and idealism for a sense of belonging?
Isn’t it a shame
We went from a sense of purpose
To copping out with alcohol and drugs?
And to escape life’s challenges
People watch T.V. or read fiction
Not knowing or caring
That when you read fiction,
You’re basically exposed to the imagination of a particular person.
But when you read non-fiction,
You’re exposed to the imagination of reality.
Isn’t it a shame
With cell phones we are talking more now
But communicating less?
As the Beatles sang,
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Isn’t it a shame?
