Choose your poison

I try to breathe and sip from the cup
But the fear of its poison is enough to make me falter

I try to hold steady the hands that feel heavy
Without yours that once held them up.

They were sufficient to touch you, taste, hold and love you
But now there's just this cup

I know not what are meant for these hands
But the knowledge I'll gain or lose from drinking
from the poison left half empty.
