What It's Like To Be Depressed

It’s a pain on the inside.
Never ceasing, even when it should.
You know you should be happy.
After all, many others have it worse than you do.
Yet you can’t get away from it.
Sometimes, you forget that it’s there,
But it never really leaves.
Trying to run from it only makes it worse.
The more you struggle,
The more it slowly pulls you in.
It quietly consumes you,
Trying to take away anything that makes you happy.
But eventually, you learn how to fight it,
How to ebb away at what used to control you,
What was you.
But even then, nothing lasts forever.
You never really win.
