Holding Her Hand
She was just a girl who fell into the wrong life
Broken, beaten, and knocked down to size
Only trying to be herself
But then he dragged her into her hell
And through the days she withered away
Finding swell comfort in a different way
She’d rather be beautiful than stay alive
Rather be thin than able to survive
And though she brought it on herself, still I hold her hand
Her attempt to numb the pain only pulled her down
Deep in the bloody darkness, her only release was found
(No matter how many times he tried to violate her, she only blamed herself)
She never believed me when I told her she was beautiful
She would always say her image was too pitiful
(She only blamed herself)
But still I hold her hand
Just like that time we ran
Running from all our fears
Only so no one saw our tears
I’ll never forget that night
And through the days she withered away
Finding swell comfort in a different way
She’d rather be beautiful than stay alive
Rather be thin than able to survive
And though she brought it on herself, still I hold her hand
It’s such a shame she got her wish
The goal of life she accomplished
She was merely ninety pounds
The morning we laid her in the ground
I love you to the bones
But still I hold her hand
Just like that time we ran
Running from all our fears
Only so no one saw our tears
