Icarus
I flew up high into the azure blue sky,
I couldn’t believe it! I could fly!
They told me not to fly into the sun,
And not too close to the sea
Or my wings would burn off
And that would be devastating…
I restrained myself from going too high
But of course I wouldn’t sink too far.
Then everyone around me started doing freestyles
After their rounds, they said, ‘it’s worthwhile!’
Then I tried doing what they did…
I ended in tragedy, my last words lost in the wind.
I tumbled from the sky to the sea,
Which became my home, for all eternity.
I couldn’t believe it! I could fly!
They told me not to fly into the sun,
And not too close to the sea
Or my wings would burn off
And that would be devastating…
I restrained myself from going too high
But of course I wouldn’t sink too far.
Then everyone around me started doing freestyles
After their rounds, they said, ‘it’s worthwhile!’
Then I tried doing what they did…
I ended in tragedy, my last words lost in the wind.
I tumbled from the sky to the sea,
Which became my home, for all eternity.
