Bad Night
I closed my eyes and counted to ten
I couldn’t roll over. I’d awake my ‘friends’
I said the rosary over and over again
But I couldn’t clear the thoughts in my brain.
This is what I get when sleeping in a tent…
Away from home, to a forced camp.
To make matters worse the rain just came
The tent got wet, and I’m underwater
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy I’m dying
My life is worthless, that’s what I’m implying.
I opened my jack knife, and a clean snap.
But covered by silence, no one could tell.
I stifled a sniggered and put it close to it…
I put it close to it, the blade kissed my skin…
A little too hard, unfortunately, blood oozed
The ground was wet already, they didn’t notice
I faded away…slowly, surely…
Then I awoke, it was all a dream
Damn! It was midnight, it was so late…
I wanted to sleep, but I couldn’t
I wanted to go home, but that’s just fantasy
So the only thing left I could do was dream
Unless I could make my dreams a reality
I couldn’t roll over. I’d awake my ‘friends’
I said the rosary over and over again
But I couldn’t clear the thoughts in my brain.
