The Rest is Silent
With so much noise I couldn’t sleep
I prayed in vain for ’not a peep’
Still: The rumble of dust as it rolls to the floor
The flapping of moth wings, I can’t take anymore
The march of my heartbeat: step by stomp
The pulse of my pulses and irregular clomp
Spider’s webbing, a dangerous chattel
A fly’s entangled screaming death rattle
Skin grinding on soft cotton sheets
The wooly blanket annoyingly bleats
The crunching inlay of crisp pillow case
Eyelashes clapping in front of my face
Net curtains waft annoyingly slow
Hairs on my duvet ebbingly flow
Sleep finally sends a signal to cease
No time to consider involuntary peace
An ending all this audible violence
As Shakespeare once said “Only the rest is silence”
I prayed in vain for ’not a peep’
Still: The rumble of dust as it rolls to the floor
The flapping of moth wings, I can’t take anymore
The march of my heartbeat: step by stomp
The pulse of my pulses and irregular clomp
Spider’s webbing, a dangerous chattel
A fly’s entangled screaming death rattle
Skin grinding on soft cotton sheets
The wooly blanket annoyingly bleats
The crunching inlay of crisp pillow case
Eyelashes clapping in front of my face
Net curtains waft annoyingly slow
Hairs on my duvet ebbingly flow
Sleep finally sends a signal to cease
No time to consider involuntary peace
An ending all this audible violence
As Shakespeare once said “Only the rest is silence”
