shadows
Looking over my shoulder,
I see a shadow move.
I peer into the darkness,
thinking my eye's are playing tricks on me.
I glance into the shadow's.
what i see breaks my heart.
A child is lying in a box,
shaking and shivering.
I wonder where his mother is,
I want to hit his father.
I know what I should do,
I know what needs to be done.
Walking up to the child,
I hold out my hand.
He takes my hand,
and follows me.
I lead him to the police station,
they have no room at the orphanage.
They say to leave him in the street,
I turn and lead the child out.
I walk to my home and keep the child there.
The next day a cop is at my door,
They found the boy's mother.
She died ayear ago and his father sent him out.
I cry a stream of tears and hug the boy.
I am his new guardian.
I am glad I stoped and stared into the shadows.
I have helped a boy find a home.
I see a shadow move.
