Icarus

Icarus

Dreaming…shackled,
I see the world in visions,
cryptic manifestations
of innocence and heartache,
longing and sorrow,
I see in plagues
the hunger of humanity,
the fateful tragedy of existence

and I find myself
still believing in the elasticity of air,
feeling grace in the intangible
silence of holiness
and with a pang
the weeping agony of
separation and loss-
the stillness in sacrifice.

And like death it draws me in,
emerging like the flame behind the smog
of a cremation fire
the Sun,
the viral, intoxicating assassin
clothed in the insidious
guise of a God

I long for freedom

Long to escape this tentacled madness consuming this
isolated decay enveloping me

And as I adorn the wings of my father
feel the resonating soul of the seraphim
trapped within this tattered, earthen patchwork
I can taste the death in the air
feel the unconditional embrace of the eternal
evanescing into the fragmentary
nothing beyond the horizon where
matter folds upon matter
in the semblance of creation

and I find
trapped within the twisting fingers
of the nebulous mother
that which I have sought yet never conquered
the amorphous creature that,
like a child, lies vanquished,
trampled under the weight of a thousand
weeping souls…
