The following questions are taken from a profile of Scottish author Ian Rankin for bookshop chain Waterstone's:

Now all but two have been posed to our resident Casanova Sansaint-Fondant (Gabriel):

-What was your favorite childhood book?
Well I guess there was none. I hated books. I was a comic book and movie kid.
So to answer the question Tin-tin comics was my fave if we consider it a book of some sort.
-Which book has made you laugh?
The so called most expensive poetry book in the world (£24,950)
David Jon Martin’s “The Chicken on my Head” and when I thought about that statement and read the “A Dismal Connection” poem from the book, I laughed.
-Which book has made you cry?
Actually one true story “The Cello” from the book Crime by Ferdinand Von Schirach
-Which book would you never have on your bookshelf?
State and Local Taxation 7th ed. 2011 Two Volumes
-Which book are you reading at the moment?
Reza Aslan: Zealot
-Which book would you give as a present to a friend?
Charlotte Roche: Wetlands 😃
-Which other writers do you admire?
Pablo Neruda, Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Aldous Huxley, Bill Bryson, Gregory Maguire and of course my peeps on DUP
-Which classic have you always meant to read and never got round to it?
Most of the classics I guess 😃
-What are your top five books of all time, in order or otherwise?
For now it’s kind of like this:
#1 Bill Bryson: Shakespeare: The World as a Stage
#2 Reza Aslan: Zealot
#3 Ferdinand von Schirach: Crime
#4 Aldous Huxley: Brave new world Revisited
#5 Tomás Eloy Martínez: The Flight of the Queen
-What is the worst book you have ever read?
A raw printout material of a supposed to be offical psychology text book with big chunks missing.
-Is there a particular book or author that inspired you to be a writer?
They say I laughed on this poem when I was little … probably because of the words of music and the mimics how my mother performed Buba’s song by Sándor Weöres (hungarian poet). “If I were a blue tit …” 😃
So that must have been the very first encounter with poetry for me.
Many years later I’ve read PierreTheMad’s sweet ink on “How I Met Your Grandmother …” here on DUP and then it went from there though I wrote probably 2 poems up till then 😃
Other than that Sándor Petőfi (hungarian poet) and Shakespeare made an impact of inspiration but it is always a continuous process for me.
-What is your favorite time of day to write?
In the afternoon near sunset
-And favorite place?
Inside a kiss
-Longhand or word processor?
A processor usually. My write is a cat scratch and hate crossing out lines either. Though sometimes I do use longhand.
-Which fictional character would you most like to have met?
My love eventually
-Who, in your opinion, is the greatest writer of all time?
Mother nature
-What is your favorite word?
Mágoa (portuguese)
(n.) a heartbreaking feeling that leaves
long-lasting traces, visible in gestures
and facial expressions
