One & Only

I always get so protective over you,
Like you're some rare jewel
Or a piece of art that God himself had painted
And graced with the gift of life and vitality

I despise all those who say your beautiful name in front of me
For their lips are unclean and their voices far too impure
To ever utter your name and pay homage to its
Exquisite charm and splendor.

People assume they know you well and all I can do is laugh at their ignorance.
I have ventured beneath the surface before and still, I know nothing.
But perhaps it is your mystery and privacy that attracts many,
Other times it could be your kindness that pulls people in.

I could compare you to a summer's day for your fiery passion and heart
Or I could compare your eyes to the blue-green, crystal water in the tropics.
Your skin I would compare to clouds or fresh snow,
Your teeth, white shiny, spotless pearls.

However, I shall not compare any part of you to any of these things.
For,  in their beauty they are still unlike you; flawed and imperfect.
And most of these things have been used in comparison before
And you deserve nothing but originality and creativity, nothing more.

So, I shall compare your passion and heart to your soul,
Your eyes to your eyes,
Your skin to your skin,
Your teeth to your teeth.

So long as I reserve the right to compare my undying love for you
To infinity and the ever expanding universe
That we call
"Home."
