American Dreams
What are the new American dreams?
One that may gain at any means.
One that lays acceptance in a veil of sin,
that makes greed and mutiny close as kin.
One that holds cruelty behind the scenes,
that frays hopes afghan at silver seams.
♦
One to forget the wars we’ve lost,
to cover our tracks at others cost.
One to paint baptists river red,
to keep them down to stay ahead.
One to place deception cold as frost,
to shred our morals forever lost.
♦
One that blinds how we feel,
that authorities’ word is a golden seal.
One that perfection’s evil is never caught,
that blemished innocence lives to rot.
One that there’s plenty in every meal,
that their hunger is believed unreal.
♦
Dreams that make us question our every day.
Dreams to make us filter the words we say.
Dreams that are now a natural flow,
Dream to now hurt who we know.
Dreams that show the price we pay.
Dreams to show the games we play.
One that may gain at any means.
One that lays acceptance in a veil of sin,
that makes greed and mutiny close as kin.
One that holds cruelty behind the scenes,
that frays hopes afghan at silver seams.
