Digital Bitch
Soft arms thrown rough around my neck
I straightened my back to lift her toes off of the ground
Both refused to be the one to pull back
So we stayed like that for a while
I made a mental note to remember her smell
I breathed her in, then immediately forgot
Her hair brushing my face would have bothered me
Had I been inside my body, there
I lowered her slowly back to the earth
But her grasp only tightened as she bent her knees
She hadn’t yet finished
Remembering me
She agreed to wait to open the letter I’d written
Until I was on my way… elsewhere
I almost ran my truck off the road as I left
Because I couldn’t unlock my gaze from the rearview mirror
I thought that I’d never see her again
I sort of haven’t, still
It’s through a new lense, less real -
Less often… She’s doin’ alright
