never here

Where are you when I need you most?
We keep coming back to this place of nowhere
this place of alibi artistry
where these excuses are not our friends
but another nail in the coffin of us

Tell me where you go when I'm not looking
tell me what you're thinking  when your mouth
speaks the words I want to hear while your eyes
spark with the lies I can't quite overcome

Love brands me an idiot
and I don't know why I keep putting faith
in your white-lie stories like they're universal truths

You're never here
you're almost always there
shining under the bright lights of dishonesty
like they can hide the shadows you keep
