deception of perception

One may perceive a deadly disease
as a cool breeze eases through
the leaves of the trees
One man might experience a giddy joy
not felt since he was a little boy
watching moonbeams gleam off the blood on the blade
of his favorite childhood toy
A person may witness a twisted face
embedded within the gnarled knots and veins
of a stained piece of wood
while another seeks out a piece of pure pine
to see embedded in a blood-stained face
All kinds of minds make up the human race
Nothing is real, nothing is true
except for every individual's point of view
all scattered like stars across oblivion
making up this weird world we're all living in
Each shining in the distance of our isolated existence
Each helping us to see and helping us to escape
and to shape our own version of reality
