dry thunder/be rain and pour

dry thunder
cast under
plum-hued skies
it sunders
the silence
between you
and I.

energy's building
volatile feelings
the stormwinds then stall
thus revealing
what has been concealed:
the rain is soon
to fall.

---------------------

I once cast eyes on you
and you made me empathetic.

my lips yearned to silence you
to inhale every pore
air as water, water as air,
from shore to the ocean floor.

my fingers would be nomadic
upon your silken skin
if only you would bless
the lands that they should walk.

my thoughts had orbited you
and wrapped you like a cosmic gift
never to lift as there is
more to you than has been seen.

my arms implored to
become your warmest scarf;
your straitjacket, your hammock,
the belt about your waist.

I could steal the universe from God.
not because I love treachery,
but it's because I love you.
though giving it to you
is saying too much
and I have no such power.

all I can bequeath thee is rain
pouring rain
and a taste of impossibility.
