Genophobia

Hands together,
fingers intertwined.
Some red lipstick
and just a dash of white wine.
Candles still lit from dinner
and family photos out of sight,
it's been months that we've been preparing for this night.

Things get interesting quickly,
your passion burning like an open, roaring flame.
You know so much about this
yet I still have a lot of ground to gain.
Your fingers grace my shoulders
as you kiss my neck from behind.
My heart starts pounding as I quickly blurt out
"I'm too tired now,
can we not do this tonight?"

You smile and nod,
patient as always.
I just feel bad, is all,
you've waited six years
with no giveaways.

You have your needs
and I do, too.
I just wish I could get over this stupid fear
so that I could please you.
After all, it's the least I could do.
You make me so happy,
I just want to make you happy, too.

Another day
so ashamed
and unable to fulfill the most basic human need.
Hopefully,
eventually,
I'll get over this.
