Breaking the Taboo

Mother. Her smile of warmth. Her love for us,

our love for her; excitement, happiness, mother.

Father. Distant his heart his look were always,

always gone, never knew of pain of ours, no, never.

Mother. Her fall was ours. We couldn't let go

of her; held on memories of warmth and smiles.

We couldn't understand how it could be so wrong.

We readied ourselves, or so we thought, for this.

But when it went wrong, hard fell we from pride.

Brother. His soul only remains, sinner's mark, my shame.

My limbs, gone; ready we were not for sacrifice.

Surprised at the price, we travel far to gain

back what we lost. Mother? No, not her, but

what we gave up when trying to reach the sun.
