starry sky black highway silence
Silences stretch between us
and I wonder if you can hear the words
I can’t speak
I’m listening, ear pressed to the walls
waiting for you to dip your tongue
into your thoughts
and let them loose on a world
that doesn’t much care for their darkness
If I could speak in a way that you could hear
I’d tell you I love you
and that I don’t mind the darkness
of your thoughts
You are allowed to be you
no matter your state of mind
no matter how dark
no matter how deep
the anguish of your soul
It doesn’t change the state of my heart
or the depth of my longing
to reach out and touch you
just to let you know I’m here
anytime you want to talk
though you’ve long forgotten how
And so the silences stretch between us
a never ending highway
of unshared pain and forgotten laughs
that I can’t seem to break through
into the heart of you
