broccoli is a-okay.

when I was very young, I hated broccoli.
I was scared that if I liked it, people would judge me.
I tried to be a "normal" kid,
instead of eating broccoli, I ran and hid.
but you know, broccoli is normal. broccoli is fine.

as I grew older, I started to like it more.
I was accepting the fact, that not everybody likes broccoli.
and that's okay, why wouldn't it be?
but don't ostracise me, for having only one difference.
we are physically exactly the same, but you think you're different.

you think your vegetables are more appropriate than mine?
Using the bible to hate anything that is different is not fine.
hating one vegetable because it's not what you like,
is like hating anyone with a bicycle, because you can't ride a bike.

things aren't so easy to understand just by looking,
you need to go deeper, really understand.
because this poem is not about broccoli,
it's about the fear of sexuality.
