Desert

We drove for miles
In this God forsaken place
Past the lonely trails
Where mankind left no trace

Just a little further down the road
You said I would be surprised to see
What some call the mother load
Wilderness as it was meant to be

We went over that hill
And there Nature was booming
Wondrous colors, beauty, goodwill
For the desert was blooming

Years ago, a friend took me out to see the desert bloom.  We drove northeast of Scottsdale, Az, on an old, windy, sandy road, and I believe the blooming valley was on the Apache Trail road towards the Theodore Roosevelt Dam.
