THE BOOK OF INSTINCTS
Chapter 1(The Parable of the King & I)
With power similar to lightning and thunder bolts my words take form
Whatever I utter has the power to create or calm down a raging storm
Like Moses parted the red sea I raise my pen towards the gloomy sky
Bright sky appeared; misty clouds of ignorance hovering above all disappeared
From far and wide seekers of knowledge, about my great tales they hear
Following cosmic signs like the three wise men before me they all appear
I speak words with healing power that can make the blind see and deaf hear
Cynics like Pharisees doubt but it’s written a prophet in his town has no recognition
A mighty King heard of my exploits and summoned his servants without hesitation
Across many miles no matter the cost, they are to fetch me with a special invitation
I arrived at his magnificent palace with all pomp & pageantry giving a warm reception
A teeming crowd cheering in a joyous mood welcomed me with a standing ovation
Both the young and old knew me as their faces beamed with smiles to my admiration
In whispering tones I could hear them call my name; I needed no formal introduction
At the king’s right hand with glamour I was accorded a befitting royal seat position
The finest of wine and sweet fruits prepared were served without my humble request
All the best entertainers of the city were performing to my pleasure as a special guest
Everything needed to make me feel comfortable was provided at my beck and call
Next to the mighty King’s royal portrait my picture was also hung on the wall
The songs and dances were perfectly synchronized for my applauding amusement
Though I wasn’t surprised coz in my book of instincts it was a scriptural fulfilment
The king was troubled, I could sense his mind drenched with worries at the moment
My instincts revealed to me his reign was under threat by evil forces from within
He needed my clairvoyance to help him unveil the enemy just so he could win
To test my prowess he asked me to read his mind as my first trial to begin
Proving myself if I was truly genuine and someone he could trust for real
He reminded me if I failed the test he would have my head served as a meal
I laughed sardonically without knowing I almost got the king infuriated
For he was feared by all and sundry; nonsense it is known he never tolerated
With bold confidence I rose up and stood right in front of his glorious throne
He commanded me to speak after he ordered his subjects to leave us alone
I proceeded to tell him what I saw in a vision troubling him was a monster
His ego, selfishness, and oppression of his subjects was looming a disaster
The disaffection & suffering among his people is a threat to his wicked reign
An agitation for his overthrow by some disenchanted folks was imminent
Rejection of wise counsel & hatred against opposition was all to his detriment
He knew I was right coz what I told him was the truth it made him remorseful
He stood up from his stool reached out & embraced me saying he was thankful
Afterwards he threw himself on the flour unto heavens he cried asking for forgiveness
I watched him suddenly turn humble and heaven smiled down at him for his meekness
He promised to change wholeheartedly as he took a vow before all that bore witness
Finally I told him to always listen to the cries and voices of his people
Heed wise counsel for the voice of the people is the voice of God
My mission was accomplished and the King continued to reign peacefully thereafter
I proceeded with my calling unto another assignment which will be told in the next chapter
