My Fathers Love

My father has always been an enigmatic figure
When parents divorce moms typically take the kids
Not my father he took care of all his boys
Coached and went to all of our games
Taught us to work and the value of a dollar
Made sure we went to school
Kept us away from gangs
Like any man he had his flaws
My father rarely displayed any emotions
He hugged me three times at most I can remember
Never told his boys that he loves them
My father is a modern Casanova
Treated woman with disdain
His bad ways were finally catching up to him
My father was on the run
One day before he was to be sent to jail to be locked away
My father called to meet for lunch he had something important he wanted to say
The first thing he did when he saw me is give me a hug which was strange
Looking at me with tears in his eyes
Choking up while he spoke my father said
Son dont ever try to be like me be a better man than me
I raised you the best I can
Live your life to the fullest show love
Learn from the mistakes of your father
I’m a broken man
I love you son be strong
My father went astray
But the love he has for his sons is something that can never be taken away
