When I Say I Love You

I know those three words are quite overused
been said too much to too many people
and often it turns out that they never meant a thing
but you oughta know that I don't say something I don't mean
I'm a little out of the ordinary, you see
I hope it's plain as day, 'cause it's clear to me

When I say I love you, it comes from my heart
it's not just empty words, not just a phrase
some people say it to just anybody, anywhere
but I'm careful with my feelings and who I trust
you can tell I'll always be there, and here's the reason why
Not because I have to be, but because I can
and when I say I love you, I mean it for life

I realize a promise can be broken
but my heart isn't something I just give away
if i say you've got it you have earned my love
and you should realize that I don't make a habit of lying
I'm different that you might think, I know
