Counting Scars
The day went by unnoticed
The anniversary of the last day that I held you.
I don’t even remember what I did that day
I don’t remember if we spoke
I am so hollow, so very very hollow
I am counting scars again
I forgot to remember that I had joy
I am counting scars again
This one was you
It doesn’t bleed
It festers
This one was them
The edges are smooth
A precision cut
Cauterized
This one is family
I’m counting scars when I should be counting stars
The anniversary of the last day that I held you.
I don’t even remember what I did that day
I don’t remember if we spoke
I am so hollow, so very very hollow
I am counting scars again
I forgot to remember that I had joy
I am counting scars again
This one was you
It doesn’t bleed
It festers
This one was them
The edges are smooth
A precision cut
Cauterized
This one is family
I’m counting scars when I should be counting stars
