Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa

You are not beautiful
And, yet you are not plain
You seem to keep a secret
And that secret captivates

But what dear Mona Lisa
Do you hide behind your smile?
What dear Mona Lisa
Has entrapped us in your wiles

Is your secret
That so clearly lights your face
And gives you such mystery
the secret of womanhood
of grace?

Is it the secret Mona Lisa?
That all we women keep
The secret of intelligence
And sensuality?

Or is it the secret
Of someone divinely touched
Given the ability to give a mother’s love

What secret Mona Lisa causes
Your lips to quirk
What makes you seem to sparkle
With mystery and mirth?

Is the secret simply that you?
Are a woman
And a woman secrets bear?
Is it that the ancient secret
That sets your heart a flare?

For though you are not beautiful
Is that what you are trying to say
That regardless of our looks
We all have an inner flame?

Something rare and beautiful
That allows us to captivate
something uniquely feminine
that lights each and every face
