Good Side
Could you shoot me on my good side,
so I look good when I go down?
Could you say that I was brave as hell,
and that I never made a sound?
I didn't live my life like Jesus
or half as good as my Momma.
You could say I was a wanderer
or just addicted to the drama.
I had my fair share of chances,
and I blew them out in the wind.
Now if I was smoking Mary Jane
then you know I would have held it in.
I won't say I made a difference
on some important grander scale
and when no one else was there for you
I wish I could say I didn't bail.
Could you shoot me from my good side
so I look good when I go down?
Could you say that I was brave as hell
That I never made a sound?
And you can leave this next part out.
Heard it's nice in California,
and well I never did get to go.
I bet there's a sweet girl out there
that I never did get to know.
But you were here, yes you my dear,
stood through all my reckoning,
and when I said "it's all said and done"
you said, "you can't say everything."
So take what's left of my money,
and buy yourself something nice
For all the things I didn't buy you
even though I knew what you liked.
Pushing down and pushing forward,
giving in to all my boredom.
Collecting hearts while keeping hers,
she said "You were mine, but this is yours."
Could you shoot me from my good side
so I look good when I go down?
Could you say that I was brave as hell
That I never made a sound?
And I don't see how
I didn't see this coming now.
