Lady Sings the Blues
her vocals weep
passion her soul seeps
many mountains she's climbed
tho they were steep
she sings of her woes
in lyrical prose
every word composed
she intimately knows
angst and hurt piercing
each note that crescendo
as hope for better
lingers in the tempo
she wades in waters
of neglected wishes
her tears tell a tale of
failed dreams and near misses
all drowned in the steady pound
banging beat of the percussion
as her heart sings of struggle
sorrow and repercussions
draped in elegant grace
with her head held high
she croons a tune so bittersweet
it makes the guitar cry
so heart wrenching and soulfelt
the bass makes a lowly sigh
the horns triumphantly blow
as she stand there teary eyed
this lady sings the blues
poised and dignified
bruised and battered
yet she has survived
accepting bitter truths
she embraced her pain
the self preservation
that has helped her maintain
she articulates the trepasses
on her mind, body, and soul
then hums peace over it all
a melody that's made her whole
often misinterpreted as sad
but past the pain you'll see the glory
this lady sings the blues
the lyrics are her life story
