The agent (spy or mole)becomes a metaphor. A metaphor for top secret ?.
He always seems to be abroad. No place like home for a defector.
He mixes with bohemians, writers and poets.
After repeated interrogations, the police concludes that he is a "metaphor" reworking the system from within and fighting battles without fighting them.
So he is only just a romantic guy defeating evil spirits.
