teenage me
There is darkness lurking
behind the sweetness of my smile
a cloak
a veil
a lie
so you can't see
the shadows lurking
underneath
I tie my hair
with ribbons
wear frills, and pearls, and lace
soft pink makeup
paints my face
but it's only half of me
and my teenage self screams
remember when our nails were black
our hair was blue
sometimes I let it show
corsets converses and holes
when I feel I am a stedford girl
I break the mold
I am an artist
so my shadows are my friends
and there is always darkness
whether I stand out or I blend
behind the sweetness of my smile
a cloak
a veil
a lie
so you can't see
the shadows lurking
underneath
I tie my hair
with ribbons
wear frills, and pearls, and lace
soft pink makeup
paints my face
but it's only half of me
and my teenage self screams
remember when our nails were black
our hair was blue
sometimes I let it show
corsets converses and holes
when I feel I am a stedford girl
I break the mold
I am an artist
so my shadows are my friends
and there is always darkness
whether I stand out or I blend
