The Bass that Settled in You
You’re arms around me come undone
I see them spreading out flinging wide
You’ve become a gorilla in the darkness
Pounding your chest so deep and bitter
I cover my ears but I still hear it in my bones
It brings me to my knees with a quake
I know you’re hurting and I know you’re burning
Hot and cold, I know why you’re crying
Your eyes please don’t look away
Make me see what I already know
The pain you feel is so real and deep it touches mine
With a deep resounding thump
As it sinks to my core
Filling my legs
With a thunderous boom
You’re arms around me come undone
I see them spreading out flinging wide
You’ve become a gorilla in the darkness
Pounding your chest so deep and bitter
I cover my ears but I still hear it in my bones
It brings me to my knees with a quake
You know I’m hurting and you know I’m running
Fast and slow, you know where my tears come from
My eyes have to look away
I can’t see the fear and anger in yours
The pain I feel is so real and deep but does it touch yours
With a featherlight timpani of sound
As it floats past your angry drumming
Settling in the river
With barely a ripple in its current
You’re arms around me come undone
I see them spreading out flinging wide
You’ve become a gorilla in the darkness
Pounding your chest so deep and bitter
I cover my ears but I still hear it in my bones
It brings me to my knees with a quake
There is a panic in the forest now
The birds are flying fast and far to escape it
My arms long to fly with them, away – away
The way you’re screaming my name resounds around us all
The pain in the dry stillness vibrates my soul
With a seismic wave that could break the strongest one of us
As it clears the air of all life
Hitting its mark as my heart shards disintegrate
With a hammer large as the sun
You’re arms around me come undone
I see them spreading out flinging wide
You’ve become a gorilla in the darkness
Pounding your chest so deep and bitter
I cover my ears but I still hear it in my bones
It brings me to my knees with a quake
It brings me to my knees
I see them spreading out flinging wide
You’ve become a gorilla in the darkness
Pounding your chest so deep and bitter
I cover my ears but I still hear it in my bones
It brings me to my knees with a quake
