Adrift in the doldrums of
loneliness
I searched for hope
on a sea polluted with those who take and never give, only
themselves
in excess
will they ever please
Adorned in Sun streaked golden hair
she appears on the horizon
as a gentle breeze
passing over this sea of
selfish
humanity where
I
is in abundant supply
Her heart holds others in such high regard
Selfless, compassionate, a kindred spirit
Capable of caring, even for those adrift
'Serenity' a name most fitting
She fills my empty sail
Propels me away from the
self-
*off* centered
environment that began to consume me
Rescued by this genuine, giant hearted lass
Forevermore to follow her example
A debt which can only be
repaid in sharing

This was written about four months after our initial introduction. It was the only time I have ever written something, then presented it as a gift.
She was so overwhelmed with emotion. I soon followed.
Several days later she arrived with a sheet of card stock, 16"x20". She hired a local printer to apply my words in a beautiful calligraphy style font. She requested I sign and
date it, with the date when we first met.
She had it professionally framed. It hangs in her foyer by the front door.
As is her nature, a gift to me in return, a gift far exceeding my feeble words.

These events occurred nearly eleven years ago, not long after Dad passed on, while I was still in a funk. *still am most days* ;)
