I Drink My Coffee Black.
Stirring sugar into it,
Is the vision I have of you,
As we sat sipping in the morning,
And the taste of your lips,
That still lingers,
Decades later.
Cream mixed in becomes,
The liquid chocolate of your skin,
Still brings tingling to mine,
And is a memory,
That delights my eyes,
Decades later.
Decades later,
Still,
Heartache,
Heartbreak,
Hurt,
Regret.
In lament,
I drink my coffee black.
Is the vision I have of you,
As we sat sipping in the morning,
And the taste of your lips,
That still lingers,
Decades later.
Cream mixed in becomes,
The liquid chocolate of your skin,
Still brings tingling to mine,
And is a memory,
That delights my eyes,
Decades later.
Decades later,
Still,
Heartache,
Heartbreak,
Hurt,
Regret.
In lament,
I drink my coffee black.

Thank you!
Ah, yes, unfortunately, we have all been there. Sadly, some of us, more than once.

re: Re: I drink my coffee black.
I think that sometimes it is the smallest things that bring us the sharpest memories. Even coffee with milk being the color of a lover's skin.
Sometimes those memories, hurt. And to avoid them, I drink my coffee black --no milk, no sugar.
Which, in a sort of twisted way, ignites those same memories.
(sigh)

Have a feeling quite soon I will be having my own invoked memories...sad...but at least there's this platform!

Sad for you.
But, maybe, good poems for us to read --out of that sadness.

What a touching sad write. How the hurt from others change who we are. Feel this deep. :(

I count it as a measure of success in my writing when some feels --is touched by what I write.
Thank you for that.

I pray, I pray, to Jay's black coffay
o'fay, I never saw what you were to me
to be, to become, was I stung or undone
Thank you Jay.
