we wake together
sunrise taunting triumphant
sleep, sweet memory
a lazy Sunday
kids scrambling blankets
bouncing on pillows
nowhere to go...
I groan complaint
you mockingly huff
we hide undercover
eye to eye
share knowing smiles
empty the bed
nodding to orders
down the hall
nippers bay "breakfast"
chocolate chip pancakes
cheese omelette burritos
pear and banana
cereal, no milk...
we're completely full
always completely cool
watching morning cartoons
blasting classic blues
letting toddlers play
the others pwn,
killing some bloke
online via Xbox.
morning hums happy
another half hour
so we kiss
and I read
and you write.
I think I followed the rules. :]

...or something like it, elsewhere, but damn, Jacki~this is such a sweet and lovely study of modern family life, and it makes me long for those Sundays with my children again. Nice piece (and yeah, I think you stuck to the rules!).
