Future

It is frightening when I think of the days
I have to spend without you.
I know that time will come;
It must.
There will be no joint goodbyes,
No whispered 'I love yous' as we fade.
In reality there will only be tears
And stifled sobs as we watch the other fade.
It hurts when I think about it
And my chest constricts so that I can't breathe.

But as that time comes and the other has gone from life
They will wait;
Whether I for you or you for me.
No, we shall not be reborn without the other
As our spirits know one another like themselves.
We will die and be born again to live together
I love you and you love me.
And love transcends death
And is reborn as the grass and birds and wind.
You shall never be alone my love,
So long as the earth sings
You shall have me.
